It has been a while since I have read any of his articles, but today I dipped back through his Olympics coverage. It's not quite as funny as his early stuff, when my sister and I would hurt ourselves we were laughing so hard. Still, I got a few giggles about his descriptions of rhythmic gymastics, the joys of betting on the outcome of beach volleyball, and the photos of the Lego royals. I nearly gave this article a miss, but I think grondzilla will particularly appreciate it, while bend_gules may need to check it out for herself and report back: http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/08/07/2935501/dave-barry-exploring-human-life.html

I must confess that I've always had a mixed reaction to Dave Barry in that I find him mildly amusing but for some reason I've simply never thought much more than that. My sister absolutely *LOVES* Dave but for the life of me I just can't work up more enthusiasm than the occasional smile. It could be that he's simply too nice.

Thank you for the ab workout and riotous laughter reading the linked article gave me. :)

I too seem to remember him as funnier than this, but I suspect my tastes have changed from exposure to UK journalism.

He's right about rhythmic gymnastics. Aside from the winner, I could not discern any difference in skill between the other competitors.

Any sport that does not recruit both men and women is, IMO, suspect. Would you watch men playing with cat toys? Doubt it.

He's completely wrong about archery, of course, but then he's a furrriner, and Lord's clearly was too much culture for him.
