Answer for question 4178.
Jan. 3rd, 2015 12:53 am[Error: unknown template qotd]Off and on, I have collected coins from places I visited. It's more of a "spare change of the world" collection, but it amuses me. Some of my favourite pieces are early 20th C European coins, made of super light metals during the wars. I also love the East German coins I smuggled out in my clogs (they had little pockets with zippers, and I hoped that would fool the metal detectors - I'm not sure anyone really cared, but it seemed risky back in high school). The only thing of value is a Canadian quarter that was mis-stamped and somehow escaped quality control at the mint. I got it in my change at a coffee shop one day. I first formalized this as a collection back when I was in Brownies. I still keep up the international section every time I travel on business (now working to supplement my African coins section, which is very tiny so far), but count on my mom to make sure I have all the Canadian coins as they are released.
