[Error: unknown template qotd]Off and on, I have collected coins from places I visited. It's more of a "spare change of the world" collection, but it amuses me. Some of my favourite pieces are early 20th C European coins, made of super light metals during the wars. I also love the East German coins I smuggled out in my clogs (they had little pockets with zippers, and I hoped that would fool the metal detectors - I'm not sure anyone really cared, but it seemed risky back in high school). The only thing of value is a Canadian quarter that was mis-stamped and somehow escaped quality control at the mint. I got it in my change at a coffee shop one day. I first formalized this as a collection back when I was in Brownies. I still keep up the international section every time I travel on business (now working to supplement my African coins section, which is very tiny so far), but count on my mom to make sure I have all the Canadian coins as they are released.

I was on a bus going to Guatemala City from San Salvador. I must have crossed the border before it happened, as there was no news when we crossed. When I got to the Embassy, my colleague showed me a replay of the planes hitting and then the towers falling on his computer. I thought he was showing me some cool animation at first. That evening, I went out for dinner and a drink, alone. I just sat in the restaurant district, watching TVs on my patio and in all the surrounding restaurants as they played the news over and over. I had had been away from my kids during both major earthquakes that year, and had been terribly worried for their safety. This time, I wasn't worried about their immediate safety, but desperately wanted to hold them close and protect them from whatever was going to happen next.

A bright red Karmann Ghia. Volkswagon's answer to the Porsche, it is still sexy after 50 years on the market.

I was part of a motorcycle gang. With colours and everything. I still have them tucked away in my closet.

The little people - some variant of dwarves, gnomes, trolls. I grew up believing they really did live in the forests and mountains. To this day, part of me is convinced I see them out of the corner of my eye when I'm hiking or alone in the woods.

I'm assuming I get to wear clothes (including shoes) to get to and from the paradise.

I had two. Yogi bear was a gift from mr grandparents for mt first Christmas. He still sits in my room, up on a shelf as he is too fragile to be touched daily. Pammy was my absolute favourite dolly. She sits on top of the bookshelf in my room.

[Error: unknown template qotd]Dairy foods. Although I am not Catholic, I have tried various versions of Lent to see if I could live with the restrictions. I can easily go without meat, chocolate, and caffeine. I really missed the milk and cheese though.
