Lent

I have decided to use Lent as an opportunity for moderation and reflection, in the hope it might help me build some long-term behaviours.

I have given up alcohol, most sugar, and have promised I would do a minimum of 30 minutes walking per day. The walking was inspired by this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUaInS6HIGo.

The thing I find most interesting is how much I want sugary treats, even though I don't normally eat them. Also, I am really resenting the walking, even though I feel much better once I have gotten some fresh air and exercise. I wonder what the psychology literature has to say about people who crave the exact opposite of what we know what is good for us.

Sugar cravings can be a sign of low iron, or also the sign you need to pamper yourself in some way.

We all crave naughty things...welcome to the dark side, we have cookies.

That's the truly sad part - I don't particularly like cookies. It's the stupidest craving ever!

Sugar cravings and grumpiness are also a sign of withdrawal. Sometimes there are headaches to go with it. Give it a couple of weeks (or three) and you will find that those things lessen. I like your approach. Sort an additional set of resolutions. I was toying with doing Lent this year but I think just hanging on to being gf is the most I can do. I need to ease up on the dairy and get rid of it completely or just keep butter occassionaly - like for pancakes. :) I like the walk for 30 minutes every day. I should take that one on and just do some form of cardio every day till easter. Good luck with everything. It will get easier and better.

Giving up sugar is much easier than becoming vegan for Lent. I live on dairy and love my meat. The walking is getting easier.

I find that the moment I say "you can't have that" I want it more than ever. If I don't deny myself potato chips, I don't buy them. If I do deny myself potato chips, I do buy them. I think it's just my inate stubborness.

I have exactly the same reaction. I always put it down to perversity, rather than stubbornness.
