New challenges for myself
Mar. 19th, 2013 08:44 pmI took a week off work and sewed. The end result was a dress, skirt and hoodie for S, and a dress plus some repaired pants for me.
S's dress was an interesting challenge. This is what she wanted:

and this is the Burda pattern I could find that was reasonably similar:

Here is what she ended up with, after I altered the pattern a bit:

I also finished a dress and jacket that had been hung up in my sewing room for almost two years because no-one could face sewing on four buttons and making two buttonholes. I still have a dress and two skirts cut out, another pattern pinned to the fabric, fabric for at least three more dresses, plus fabric for at least 8 pairs of pants/pantsuits/skirt suits. That's before I get to any of the SCA fabric hoard. I figure that if I made one item every two weeks for the rest of the year, I might be clear of fabric. So, I will try to do that for a while. I may intersperse the sewing with knitting or even SCA crafts.
To make my challenge more challenging (and undoubtedly ensure failure) I am bound and determined to get to the pool more often. I have officially joined the masters' swim club at my pool, even though I don't swim with them. However, by joining, I can participate when they have extra sessions, and I may be able to do drop ins every Saturday morning before my regular swim. I joined them for a long course swim on Sunday morning (1 hour 20 minutes, and just over 2 km), which felt great. I followed it up with a 10 km hike, an afternoon of sewing, and then drinks with a friend - that also felt great until I realized I had come down with a cold. I spent Monday sleeping.
My first swimming challenge is going to be the Rideau Speedeaus swimathon on April 6th. It's only 1500m, but I intend to do my regular workout first. It's for a good cause, so if anyone wants to sponsor me, here's the info: http://www.rideauspeedeaus.com/en/swim-eau-thon.html
