1. What was your favorite book during childhood? - I had a big book of children's literature. It was a mix of short stories, fairy tales, and excerpts from larger books, illustrated in a variety of styles. It was my introduction to The Hobbit.
2. What is your favorite book now? I don't have a single favourite novel, but I return regularly to Margaret Atwood's "Alias Grace", and I like Pride and Prejudice a lot. Non-fiction non-cookbook is probably my two-volume Die Merowingerzeit (even though I don't speak much German, it has tons of useful info). For cookbooks (a huge passion), I'm torn between the 1964 Betty Crocker Cookbook and Apicius (a Roman cookery book).
3. What is your favorite movie adaptation of a book? Mary Poppins.
4. Do you prefer checking out books from the library or buying them? I try to check them out when possible, but most of the books I want are out of print or rare, so I do end up buying more than I should.
5. Have you ever been let down by a book that was highly recommended to you? Rarely. I hated the Foundation Trilogy.
