Surprise in my neighbourhood
Aug. 17th, 2012 10:25 pmTonight as I was returning home from a walk with my friend Renee, I discovered a movie in the park. My neighbourhood, which is the first planned suburb in Canada (1918-19), has a little park at its core, with a basketball court and play structures, all surrounded by houses facing the park. Someone ad rigged up a giant scren using a plastic sheet tied to the play structures, and set up Despicable Me, an animated children's movie, on a computer and projection system. The grass and part of the basketball court were filled with blankets, chairs, and families watching the movie together.
It brought back vivid memories of community movie nights the year I lived in London Ontario as a child. Then, of course, it was with a projector and black and white movies - mostly Keystone Cops, Laurel and Hardy, and Charlie Chaplin.
Kaboone and I stayed to watch the end of the movie. I love my neighbourhood.
