I have just finished reheating my lunch in a plastic container. This is stupid. I purposely bought a bowl and a plate for the office, so I could avoid heating my lunches in plastic containers. Plastic containers are very useful. They are light and sufficiently inexpensive that I can own enough to pitch them into the dishwasher rather than washing up immediately to pack tomorrow's lunch. Comparable containers range from $20-$30, and weigh almost a pound each. Some day, when I am rich, it would be lovely to have a huge collection of these: http://www.lifewithoutplastic.com/store/ca/lunchbots-bento-uno-large-container.html.

In the meantime, I resolve to transfer my lunch to a plate or bowl before reheating it, every day for the rest of the month.

Is not heating your food in the plastic container part of the month?

It wasn't going to be, but it seems like a good habit to get into while I'm thinking about not using plastic. The stuff is supposed to be microwave-safe, but the proximity of my fear-mongering colleagues outweighs the assurances of scientists I have never met.

Ah yes, the fear-mongering colleagues. I have a number of those as well. The big thing around here is sitting.

Did you know that you are 94% more likely to die if you sit down ever? We must all stand or lie down only and we'll live forever!

If we stand or lie down only, we can add the bonus of perfect posture and amazing abs to our living forever! Mind you, I use the "sitting is the new smoking" to force myself out of my chair regularly - but I have been getting treatment for varicose veins for over 20 years so it is partly true in my case. So far, no improvement for my abs, though :(.

I was thinking about this resolution today. Looking at the number of plastic bags someone else brings into the house from the corner store, due to his horrible habit of buying energy drinks (gag!), it just stuns me how much we have. And it's not like they're *useful* for anything else, due to their size.

I don't know if I could do this.

I carry a foldable cloth bag in the bag I haul around everywhere (really should replace that with something more attractive). That way, I can pull it out to be filled with my purchases at the cash. If I forgot it after unpacking at home, I still have the big bag with my purse, knitting and miscellaneous bits. Either way, I almost never take a bag at the store.

Training boys is hard, though!

At least the plastic bags can be recycled. It's the endless packaging that drives me batty. I admit to using plastic lunch containers, but that is primarily because I'd rather not haul glass ones on the bicycle.

Packaging is the worst! At least we can recycle 1 through 7 now (I just looked it up, which means I now have to pull the lid off a Timmie's cup that the girl brought in last night, and transfer it to the recycling). I share your concern about glass on a bicycle.

I would rather have endless zip locks than the prepackaged tubs of yogurt say, or saran wrapped sandwiches. We don't tend to make heat-able lunches.

We could probably go to glass etc, as we don't commute by bike. But they are less likely to survive the "I have kept all my lunch containers at work all week, Helen is threatening to kill me if I don't bring them home, lets cram everything into one bag and pray all will be well" on Friday afternoon. :-D

LOL! OTOH, given the difference in price, he might actually remember to bring them home rather than face the wrath of Helen. I have lost more containers due to the boy child taking them to feed friends and coming home empty handed....
